Model Section 1557 Civil Rights Grievance Procedure

Why you need this model policy and procedure:

Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act (ACA) requires covered entities to adopt safeguards to avoid discriminating on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability in certain health programs and activities. One of those safeguards, which is set out in Section 92.7(b) of the ACA final rule, is to establish a grievance procedure ensuring fast and fair resolution of Section 1557 grievances.

How this model policy helps you:

Although the final rule does not offer a specific formula, it does include a model grievance procedure as an attachment. We took the government’s model and improved it to create the Model Section 1557 Grievance Procedure.

How to use this model policy:

Use this Model to develop a grievance procedure for your own practice.
