Virtually every medical office manager will at some time have an employee who requests a maternity or medical leave of absence (LOA).
But employee LOAs can be legally tricky AND place heavy staffing and workload burdens on small and mid-sized practices. Not only do you risk potential discrimination claims for violating LOA laws, you also face scheduling and staffing conflicts and shortfalls that can impact quality of patient care.
