Good Things to Work on in June: A To-Do List for Medical Office Managers

June 6, 2025

June can be a unique month in a medical office. The school year is winding down, patients are beginning to schedule around summer vacations, and your staff may be looking ahead to time off. While the pace might shift slightly, this month presents a golden opportunity to catch your breath and get ahead. Here are ten smart projects to tackle in June that will keep your medical practice humming smoothly all summer long.

1. Review Your Summer Staffing Schedule
June is the time to lock in staffing coverage for July and August. Review time-off requests, confirm backup plans, and consider cross-training staff if you’ll be running lean. Don’t wait until someone’s out to discover a gap in coverage—be proactive now.

2. Prepare for the Back-to-School Rush
While school physicals and immunizations peak in late summer, get ahead by reviewing vaccine inventory, updating forms, and setting up scheduling templates. You could even start an early reminder campaign for families to book their appointments now.

3. Audit Patient Communications
Is your office sending appointment reminders, follow-up instructions, or test result notifications in the most effective way? June is a great time to review your communication workflows—both digital and manual—and make improvements where needed.

4. Plan Your Summer Marketing Campaigns
Consider promoting seasonal services like sports physicals, dermatology check-ins, or travel medicine. June is the time to map out emails, social media posts, or community outreach you’ll want to roll out over the summer months.

5. Check in on Your Budget Mid-Year
You’re halfway through the year—how’s your budget holding up? Are supply costs higher than expected? Is revenue on track? Take a close look now so you can make course corrections or plan responsibly for equipment upgrades and staff needs.

6. Organize and Declutter Your Office Spaces
The slower pace of early summer is ideal for tackling those nagging physical tasks: cleaning out the supply closet, reorganizing file cabinets, or tidying shared workstations. Delegate where you can and make it a team effort.

7. Revisit Compliance and Training
Are all certifications current? Any HIPAA or OSHA training due soon? Use June to check that all staff are compliant with required standards, and plan any training refreshers now before things get hectic again.

8. Schedule a Team Check-In or Staff Appreciation Event
June is a great time to take the pulse of your team. Whether it’s a formal mid-year check-in or a casual lunch to say thank you, a little recognition goes a long way. Boosting morale now can help everyone stay energized through the summer.

9. Evaluate Your Technology and Equipment
How’s your EHR performing? Are printers and tablets in good shape? June is an ideal month to schedule IT maintenance, review tech support contracts, and replace or upgrade any problem equipment before it becomes a bigger issue.

10. Refresh Your Patient Feedback Strategy
Take a look at your reviews and patient satisfaction scores from the first half of the year. Are there trends you can act on? Update your patient surveys or start asking for feedback in new ways. Showing patients that you’re listening builds long-term trust.
