Make no mistake: Failure to comply with HIPAA laws can expose your medical practice to devastating fines and penalties.
Currently, federal fines for noncompliance range up to $50,000 per violation, with a maximum penalty of $1.5 million per year for each violation.
In fact, the OCR hit medical practices with OVER $28 million in HIPAA fines and penalties in 2018!
Worse still, certain violations can expose your practice to criminal charges, or get your practice permanently listed on the OCR’s “Wall of Shame” for HIPAA violators.
